Umoja generation serves three important purposes:
- Education: Facilitate weekly tutoring, homework help in a one-on-one setting to accommodate public school’s academic requirements. Assist refugee youth with accessing higher education through helping with financial aid applications, college applications, college visits, Accuplacer preparation(entry college test), and connections with academic advisors, etc.
- Workshops & Training: Introduce students to technology, focus on STEM and computer systems to further youth understanding of today’s technology. Provide training, such as Driver’s License Test, in a linguistically competent manner. Connecting refugee youth to outside resources based on the needs of individuals.
- Life Skills: Conduct educational workshops on key areas of family and social life, as well as critical areas of resettlement and integration. Help parents to be more invested in their children’s education by informing them about additional resources. Social and psychological support to help advance personal and family dynamics as well as social integration and self-sufficiency.
