Fiston Mwesige who is our founder, moved to the USA in 2014 already completed High School and ready to go to College. He faced numerous challenges that include but is not limited to navigating the US education system, lack of financial resources, etc… and they were not resources to help him out. Later he became involved in the refugee community and noticed the same issues refugee youths are struggling with. Most refugee students come to the USA with an informal background education, and get enrolled to School based on their age rather than education level. As a result, high numbers of them ended up dropping out. Lacking skills to get high paying jobs, Involve with the wrong crowd and most end up in Jail…That is where the inspiration of founding the Umoja Generation came from. So these issues can be addressed.
